COWBOYS

Who is Seth Williams, the WR Cowboys signed to the practice squad?

After wide receiver Brandin Cooks landed on the IR list with a knee injury, the Dallas Cowboys signed a new WR to their practice squad ahead of Week 6.

Behind CeeDee Lamb, the Dallas Cowboys don’t have just a whole lot of depth at the wide receiver position. Their WR2 Brandin Cooks was placed on Injured Reserve with a knee infection just ahead of their Week 5 game against the Steelers. They were still able to come away with the win, thanks in part to another receiver, Jalen Tolbert, who caught Dak Prescott’s game-winning touchdown with 20 seconds left.

Despite the victory, the lack of depth at the WR position remains a problem for Dallas - one which they finally addressed this week.

Cowboys sign former Auburn standout

As the Cowboys are also dealing with a mess of injuries on the defense, they activated linebacker Nick Vigil and defensive end Carl Lawson when DE Marshawn Kneeland was placed on IR. That opened up two practice squad spots, which Dallas used to sign defensive end Luiji Vilain and wide receiver Seth Williams.

Williams played three seasons for Auburn in college and finished with 2,124 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns in 36 games. He was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the 2021 NFL Draft in the sixth round. In his rookie season, he only played in two games before spending the last two seasons on the Jacksonville Jaguars’ practice squad.

If he gets an opportunity to play for the Cowboys, he’ll be looking to revamp his career in the big league. For now, the Cowboys have found their new WR2 in Tolbert and still have Jalen Brooks and KaVontae Turpin on the depth chart.
