Nepali-American teenager a history maker
Bastola, who is from Severna Park, Maryland, became the first Nepali-American to compete on The Voice when she appeared in season 22 of NBC’s reality-TV singing show in late 2022.
Then just 17, Bastola finished up as a Top 8 finalist during a competition run in which she took the chance to promote Nepalese culture, most notably performing in traditional clothing from the Asian nation.
“Nepal’s not a country that most people know about, and there’s not much Nepalese representation on TV or in media,” Bastola told an interview with People magazine in November 2022.
“So I think it’s super cool that I’m able to talk about my family and the clothes that I wear on the show. It’s allowing me to be myself, and in doing so, I’m able to teach a lot of Americans about my culture and what I’m about.”
The Texans-Ravens clash will also feature a half-time musical performance by the rock band Jimmy Eat World.
Ravens eye AFC Championship return after decade away
Having received a Wild Card round bye as the AFC’s No. 1 seed, the Ravens host the Texans in a Divisional clash that offers Baltimore the opportunity to reach the AFC Championship game for the first time since they won the Super Bowl in the 2012 season.
Houston, meanwhile, have never been beyond the postseason’s Divisional round.
The winners of the Texans vs the Ravens will face either the Kansas City Chiefs or the Buffalo Bills in the AFC conference decider on 28 January.
