Who is starting at QB for the Giants against the Falcons in week 16, Drew Lock or Tommy DeVito?

After releasing Daniel Jones, the Giants have been auditioning for a new starting QB. DeVito has been cleared from protocol.

The quarterback position has been a headache for Brian Daboll since the season started. Daniel Jones missed the majority of last season with a neck then an ACL injury but in spite of that, he was named as QB1 ahead of the current campaign back in September.

But Jones was clearly struggling to recapture his old form and his position started to become untenable after the team crashed to five straight defeats.

Devito as the Giants' starting QB

Jones was replaced by Tommy DeVito and demoted to third-choice with Drew Lock ahead of him in the pecking order. Devito has played the last three games, racking up 257 passing yards, zero touchdowns and zero interceptions.

Until now Lock has been DeVito’s backup. The reason is that he joined on a one-year contract in March and the Giants don’t expect him to stay on when the deal expires in the New Year.

However, Lock was handed a start in the 27-20 defeat to the Cowboys, ending with 57 yards rushing on four carries and an 8-yard touchdown. He was 21-of-32 passing for 178 yards and sacked six times.

Devito and Stinnie in protocol

DeVito was forced to quit last week’s game against the Ravens with concussion (with the perpertrator DL Nnamdi Madubuik hit with a $16,883 fine).

“It don’t know if it was the penalty or after that,” Daboll told reporters after the game. He came off. Talked to him a little bit and right before we were gonna go out there with that two-minute drive. I went over to him and talked about a particular play and we had a couple of time-outs. I saw his eyes and I asked the trainer to come over and have a look at him".

After being limited on Wednesday and Thursday, DeVito cleared protocol and returned to full practice on Friday. But he is expected to be handed the QB2 role against Atlanta, behind Lock with Tim Boyle as QB3.

“Tommy’s good,” Daboll explained. “[Aaron] Stinnie is still in the protocol. We’ll see".

Bobby Okereke (back), Patrick Johnson (knee) and Greg Stroman (shoulder/shin) are all ruled out for the game, which will be played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta on Sunday 22 December, kicking off at 1 p.m. ET / 10 a.m. PT. and airs live on Fox.
