The sprained right shoulder suffered by quarterback Jalen Hurts in last Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears has transformed the landscape of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Hurts’ injury changes the odds

The severity of the injury is still to be determined, as well as the possibility of Hurts playing against the Dallas Cowboys next Saturday, but in the betting houses the situation has already been predicted.

This morning the Cowboys were placed as favorites to take the victory by 1.5 points, and in the course of the afternoon they were placed by up to 6 points.

In the Week 6 game when the Eagles and Cowboys met (which Philadelphia won 26-17), Dallas trailed by 6.5 points as underdogs due to the absence of injured Dak Prescott.

QB Gardner Minshew is expected to start for the Eagles this Saturday. Last season he had to go on the field due to an injury to Hurts, and he did it in good form, completing 20 of 25 passes for 242 yards with two touchdowns in a win over the New York Jets.

Mahomes: Bookmakers’ favorite for MVP

The news of Jalen’s injury also had an effect on the odds in the bookmakers for obtaining the MVP of the season award.

Hurts had been the favorite to win due to his breakout performance, but because of his injury, Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes has become the new favorite with a line of -150.

Hurts has thrown for 3,472 yards and rushed for 747 yards in the 14 games through Week 15. He has had 35 touchdowns and just five interceptions, completing 67.3 percent of his pass attempts.

Meanwhile, Mahomes completed his last 19 pass attempts in the Chiefs’ victory over the Houston Texans on Sunday. He has already helped his team clinch the AFC West title.
