Who is Tyrod Taylor: The Jets quarterback filling in for injured Justin Fields
The Jets number one quarterback suffered a concussion on Sunday and left in the fourth quarter. Backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor will be filling in Week 3.
Who is Tyrod Taylor? The starting quarterback for the New York Jets after Justin Fields suffered a concussion in the 4th quarter of Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills. Fields has now been ruled out of their Week 3 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
That mean it’s time for Tyrod Taylor, who was back up to Aaron Rodgers before the Jets and the California-born quarterback parted ways, to step up in his place.
Tyrod Taylor: NFL veteran
It feels odd to introduce Taylor as he’s a 14-year veteran in the NFL, but there’s a possibility you don’t know much about him. He has been a starter in the league before, but it’s been a while. His last start was seven seasons ago, in 2017 with the Buffalo Bills. You should also know he has a history of injuries, so the Jets have reason to be a little nervous right now.
The 35-year-old was originally brought on to be Rodgers’ backup and he’s been known to do something Rodgers didn’t - take risks downfield. He’s also well-liked in the locker room.
Through his 58 career starts, Taylor is 28-28-1 as a starting quarterback and 4-8 over the last three years. Back in 2017, Taylor led the Bills to the playoffs after a 17-year drought, before they traded up for Josh Allen in the draft the next year. His contract is just $6.8 million for the 2025 season.
