The Seattle Seahawks elected not to add a quarterback during the 2022 NFL Draft despite having nine picks and having traded Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos. Instead, the Seahawks took offensive tackle Charles Cross with the 9th overall pick and added defensive end Boye Mafe and running back Ken Walker III in the second round.

However, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll is perfectly happy with his quarterback options ahead of the 2022 NFL season, even though rumours of a deal to acquire Baker Mayfield from the Cleveland Browns have failed to go away.

Carroll: “We’re always competing. That’s all we know how to do around here”

“We’re always competing. That’s all we know how to do around here. We’re always checking out everything that’s possible,” Carroll told NFL Network.Right now, really excited about seeing these guys for the first time and we’ll see what happens in the time to come. We’re always competing. We’re always looking.”

The Seahawks have three quarterbacks going into the pre-season: Drew Lock, Geno Smith and Jacob Eason. Of the three, Smith has the most experience having spent the last two seasons at Lumen Field. However, Carroll said there will be competition for the starting spot.

Geno Smith is the guy that did the most playing for us and has the most background. So Drew is in catch-up mode right now. We’ll get on the field for the first time Monday and get a chance to see what he looks like.”

Lock was a second-round pick for the Broncos in 2019 but never cemented his place as a starter in three seasons at Empower Field and was traded to the Seahawks in March as part of the deal that sent Wilson the other way.
