Why Caleb Williams is facing huge pressure in year 2 with Bears
The Chicago Bears quarterback is entering his second season with high expectations despite a solid rookie debut last year.
For some reason, Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams has been painted by the media as having a rocky rookie season. He was the 2024 No. 1 overall draft pick so of course, expectations were high.
But Williams finished the season with 3,541 yards (fifth-most in franchise history), 20 touchdowns, and just six interceptions, which is a pretty decent first year in the league. Still, he’s under pressure to perform perfectly in 2025.
Caleb Williams tagged NFL’s “most intriguing” ahead of 2025 season
“The Athletic” recently named Williams one of the NFL’s 25 most intriguing players for 2025 (13th on the list), calling his rookie season “tumultuous”.
They cited his struggles with sacks, coaching changes, and a new system under head coach Ben Johnson as the reasons for that. In fairness, he was sacked a league-high 68 times. Still, his rookie campaign was not quite so turbulent as the media makes it out to have been.
While this season may or may not be pivotal for Williams in his career trajectory, he is the most important player on the team, so of course, his success in 2025 will matter. He will indeed need to prove that he can play under Johnson’s system, but “one of the most intriguing” is perhaps a bit of a stretch.
