Why did Bills star Josh Allen have a fight with his teammate Jordan Phillips?
Did his teammate break the unspoken rule of ‘don’t touch the QB?’ or was the star signal-caller just being soft? Either way, it probably shouldn’t happen again.
NFL training camps can sometimes be quite heated and not just because they occur in Summer. Most recently, the Bills QB got into a spat with a fellow teammate and the pair had to be separated.
What happened between Josh Allen and Jordan Phillips at Bills training camp?
It goes without saying, that the quarterback is a protected player in the game of American Football. How often do we see unnecessary roughness or late hits on signal-callers punished severely in official games? Yet, on Saturday there were no referees or fans and it most definitely wasn’t an official game, but that didn’t stop tempers from flaring. The moment in question, arrived when Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Jordan Phillips got a little too close for comfort.
Bills QB Josh Allen, who was attempting to rush through the middle during a two-point conversion, made contact with Phillips and from the looks of things, Allen didn’t like it one bit. Indeed, the star QB immediately turned around and aggressively approached Phillips before pushing him in his helmet. Needless to say, it was only a matter of moments before all hell broke loose. “Immediately you want him out of that pile,” Bills center Mitch Morse said. “Emotions are allowed to get high - it’s an emotional sport. Tensions run high at times, but you never want it to be carried over or get carried away and someone can get hurt. And then you have some real trouble on your hands and things can escalate quickly.”
What’s Josh Allen’s current situation?
It was just last year, that Allen signed a monster six-year, $258 million extension. The Bills star then proceeded to go big with an impressive 2022 campaign which saw him go 11-6 as the starter with 4,407 passing yards notched, 36 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. Though the Bills would eventually fall in the divisional round of the playoffs, they are heavily favored to go all the way this coming season. With that said, one has to imagine that they won’t get very far if that can’t learn to get along with each other.
