Why did the NFL fine the Miami Dolphins’ Tyreek Hill $10,927?
No stranger to controversy, the Dolphins star WR has once again found himself on the wrong side of the rules after a questionable celebration.
Regardless of what sport we’re talking about, taunting and incitement are never something that people really want to see. To that end, the Dolphins star will have some reflecting to do after he was punished by the league for apparently doing just that.
NFL fines Tyreek Hill for peace sign celebration
On Saturday, the NFL announced its fine list for Week 5 of the season and not surprisingly the Miami Dolphins’ wide receiver Tyreek Hill was on the list once more. For what the league deemed as unsportsmanlike conduct, Hill was fined $10,927. Where specifics are concerned, Hill made a peace sign as he made his way to the end zone en route to a 69-yard touchdown during the third quarter of the Dolphins’ 31-16 win over the New York Giants. At the time, Hill was flagged for taunting, but it didn’t stop him from making his way into the stands to give the football to his mother.
Tyreek Hill has paid a lot of money in fines to the NFL
While it would be unfair to call the Super Bowl winner a problem, the reality is Hill has an extensive history of being disciplined by the league. As recently as Tuesday, the 29-year-old admitted that the league has fined him for “more than 100k.” Indeed, his comments came after he had received a fine for failing to wear socks, something the league deemed as a uniform violation. Concerning that specific infraction, Hill disclosed that it was a “significant” amount though not as much as $100,000.
Explaining why he was without socks, he explained that he’s typically rushed before games, however, he was fully prepared to “comply” with the league’s guidelines because it was costing him way too much money. “I get IVs [to prevent cramping] before games and sometimes the timing doesn’t allow me to put on socks at times and I don’t want to miss plays or sometimes I have socks and it doesn’t cover a certain length,” he said. Fines or not, Hill and the Dolphins will be back in action on Sunday evening when they look to improve on their 4-1 record against the winless Carolina Panthers.
