Why does Rob Gronkowski think Travis Kelce is a better tight end than he was?

Most football fans will likely agree that when it comes to tight ends, Rob Gronkowski and Travis Kelce are essentially the best two that we’ve seen in the NFL’s modern era. While the former may now be retired, it stands to reason that few if any have surpassed his efforts on the field, including the latter. Indeed, that’s what makes Gronk’s recent take on Kelce so interesting.

Gronk gives his vote to Travis Kelce

As mentioned above, Rob Gronkowski is now retired from the NFL. Yet, be that as it may, it’s not stopped most football fans from maintaining the narrative that the four-time Super Bowl winner is the best tight end that they’ve seen. On the other hand, Gronkowski himself seemed to push back on that notion as he gave his thoughts on Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, a player that he appears to believe is superior to him.

To be clear, Kelce currently has three Super Bowl rings, two of which he won in the last two consecutive seasons. Asked for his thoughts on the comparison with Kelce during a recent appearance with YouTuber Funny Marco, Gronkowski didn’t hesitate. “Aw man. For longevity, yes,” Gronkowski told YouTuber Funny Marco. “Yes, he’s still going. I’m not, I’m on the bench.”

It’s worth noting that both men were born in the same year (1989), however, they were actually drafted three years apart. Where Gronk is concerned, he would go on to play 11 seasons across a career that saw him turn out for both the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Kelce on the other hand, is now entering his 12th year in the league and by the looks of things has a few more years to go before he’s likely to call it quits.

Interestingly, Gronkowski also went on to state that he’d take Kelce over another prolific tight end, George Kittle, who plays for the San Francisco 49ers because of the difference in titles won between the two. Do recall that Kelce and the Chiefs have now beaten Kittle and the Niners in two Super Bowls and that includes the most recent one that was played this past February. Take it or leave it, the Gronk has spoken.
