The good news just keeps on coming for Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. After winning his third Super Bowl in Las Vegas and being named MVP in the championship game for the third time in his career, he is now also in line for a substantial pay rise following his exploits in the 2023 season.

Mahomes’ Chiefs salary

The 28 year old already the NFL’s most valuable contract back in 2020, agreeing a 10-year deal worth $450 million, averaging out at $45 million a year. That figure included a base salary of $8.6 million, which is now set to jump by $1.25 million to $9.85 million, according to former agent and CBS Sports broadcaster Joel Corry, as reported by The Mirror US.

The reason for the quarterback’s salary increase

Now that the 2023 season is over, it has been confirmed Mahomes will receive the bonus after his offensive playtime in the regular season passed the 50 per cent mark, a condition that was part of the Texan’s contract re-negotiations with the Chiefs last September.

The quarterback is now also guaranteed to make $210.6 million up until 2026, although escalators could push that amount up to $218.1 million by the end of that period.

In his seven years playing in the NFL, Mahomes has played in the Super Bowl on four occasions, winning three times. Only four quarterbacks in history have won more championship games (Tom Brady - seven, Joe Montana - four, Terry Bradshaw - four). Given the Chiefs stars’ age, who would bet against him moving to the top of that particular list?
