Why isn’t Jaire Alexander playing for the Packers against the Lions in Week 14? When will he be back?
The Green Bay Packers are four men short when they take on the Detroit Lions for Thursday Night Football, including starting cornerback Jaire Alexander.
Week 14 of the NFL kicks off with a Thursday Night Football matchup between the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions. Unfortunately for the Packers, they will once again be without starting cornerback Jaire Alexander.
Jaire Alexander’s injury and estimated return
Alexander will miss his sixth game this season for the Packers tonight as he continues to deal with a PCL injury that he suffered more than a month ago against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Alexander has missed three of the Packers' last four games due to the knee injury. The last time the Packers met the Lions in early November, they were without Alexander and lost 24-14. He had returned to play the Chicago Bears the following week, but quickly re-aggravated the injury and hasn’t returned to play since.
He appeared to be on track to play throughout practice this week, as he was listed as a limited participant, but finally was listed as DNP on Wednesday and eventually ruled out of the TNF game. The Packers are likely to continue with Keisean Nixon and Carrinton Valentine as the top outside corners until Alexander recovers.
After this week, the Packers will reassess Alexander’s status with the hopes that he can return for their Week 15 game against the Seattle Seahawks, but ongoing evaluations will eventually determine if that’s possible.
The game between the Lions and Packers kicks off at 8:20 p.m. ET tonight at Ford Field. You can follow along with our live text coverage brought to you by Dane Arlauckas right here on AS USA.
