Why isn’t Jared Goff playing for the Lions in the preseason game against the Giants?
Dan Campbell is unlikely to play the starters such as Jared Goff, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jahmyr Gibbs, and Penei Sewell, but there are plenty of other players.
The Detroit Lions are preparing for their first preseason matchup of the 2024 season, which will be against the New York Giants on Thursday, August 8th, in East Rutherford.
Both teams are engaged in joint practice sessions leading up to the game. Head coach Dan Campbell has stated that the team’s key players for the upcoming season are unlikely to see much action in the first preseason game. He specifically mentioned that quarterback Jared Goff is not expected to take the field.
Coach Campbell has emphasized that younger players and those in developmental roles will be given more playing time. This includes the team’s first-round pick, cornerback Terrion Arnold, who is anticipated to start alongside Carlton Davis in the upcoming season. Additionally, rookies such as cornerback Ennis Rakestraw Jr. and running back Sione Vaki are expected to feature in the game.
Another point of interest will be the performance of kicker Jake Bates, who has faced challenges in practice recently. Furthermore, the slot cornerback position competition will be closely watched, with veterans Amik Robertson and Ifeatu Melifonwu.
