Why isn’t there Monday Night Football tonight?

Many football fans are wondering why none of the week 17 NFL regular season games are not being shown as part of MNF.

Sunday/New Year’s Eve saw the round-up of all of the week 17 games from the NFL 2023-24 season with no matches left over for the traditional Monday Night Football.

Despite there being no being no NFL action tonight, football fans do have something to look forward to with traditional MNF broadcaster ESPN set to serve up a double bill in the shape of the final four-team College Football Playoff.

Rose Bowl

The Rose Bowl is the first offering as No. 1 team Michigan Wolverines face No. 4 seed Alabama Crimson Tide with kick-off scheduled for 5 pm ET/2 pm PT.

The Crimson Tide got to this stage of the competition after defeating Georgia in the SEC Championship Game, and they will now take on the undefeated Wolverines, who have looked rock-solid so far, with solid wins against teams like Penn State and Ohio State.

Sugar Bowl

The action from Pasadena will be followed by the Sugar Bowl between No. 2 Washington Huskies and No. 3 Texas Longhorns with the second College Football Playoffs semifinal of the day will start at 8:45 pm ET/5:45 pm ET.

The unbeaten Huskies have been one of the most solid teams in the whole tournament, with a 12-0 regular season record, and have been one of the most efficient offenses in the country this term. The Longhorns, meanwhile, have a great defensive line and a notable passing attack. They have kept head coach Steve Sarkisian for the last three years, and the team hasn’t stopped improving since then, so they will fancy their chances against Washington.
