Why isn’t Troy Andersen playing for the Falcons against the Buccaneers on Thursday Night Football?
The Atlanta Falcons host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for Thursday Night Football tonight, but the Falcons have officially ruled out linebacker Troy Andersen.
Another week of NFL kicks off tonight as the Atlanta Falcons and Tampa Bay Buccaneers play Thursday Night Football at Mercedes-Benz Stadium at 8:15 p.m. ET. Unfortunately for Atlanta, they’ll be playing without their Week 4 defensive standout, linebacker Troy Andersen.
Troy Andersen ruled out for Falcons vs Buccaneers TNF
In the Falcons’ Week 4 game against the New Orleans Saints, Andersen delivered his first career pick-six, had a career-high 16 tackles (NFL lead for the week), including nine solo, a pass breakup, and a tackle for a loss. His contributions to the game had a huge impact in their eventual victory and he ended up being named NFC Defensive Player of the Week.
Sadly, Andersen left the game in the fourth quarter with a knee injury. He did not participate in any of the Falcons’ walkthrough practices during their short week this week. And now head coach Raheem Morris has officially ruled Andersen out of tonight’s TNF game against the Bucs.
Since Nate Landman remains on Injured Reserve, Atlanta will look to rookie inside linebacker JD Bertrand to take over for Anderson alongside Kaden Elliss. Bertrand took eight defensive snaps last week when Andersen left the game.
