What is Detroit Lions QB Goff’s record against the San Francisco 49ers?
In Sunday’s NFC Championship Game at Levi’s Stadium, Lions quarterback Jared Goff will come up against the team he supported as a boy.
The Detroit Lions have advanced to their first NFC Championship Game in over 30 years, and much of the success can be attributed to quarterback Jared Goff’s adept distribution of the ball among his skill players. The role of the Detroit quarterback will be significant in the National Conference championship clash against the San Francisco 49ers because he hails from the northern Bay Area. Goff grew up in Novato, California, approximately 28 miles from San Francisco, and during his youth, he was a fan of the Niners.

Why number 16 for Goff at Lions?
Prior to his professional career, Goff played high school football with the Marin Catholic Wildcats in Kentfield and subsequently made a mark with the California Golden Bears at the collegiate level.
Such was his connection with the 49ers franchise that the number 16, which he has worn since being drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in 2016 as the first overall pick, is a tribute to the legendary Joe Montana. Another iconic moment in his allegiance to the San Francisco franchise occurred when the Niners selected Alex Smith with the first overall pick in the 2005 Draft instead of choosing Aaron Rodgers. At the age of ten, a young Goff was upset because his team did not draft the California graduate over the one from Utah.
How has Goff performed against the 49ers?
Now, Goff must overcome the team that was once his beloved one to play in the Super Bowl for the second time in his career. His first appearance is remembered as one of the worst. Both the Rams and the New England Patriots entered the game with two of the best offenses of the year, but the result was 13-3 in favor of Tom Brady’s team.
Jared Goff’s record against the San Francisco 49ers is noteworthy. Goff has played nine games against the 49ers, eight as part of the Rams and one with the Lions. Of these, only four have been contested at Levi’s Stadium, with a balance of two victories (2017 and 2018) and two defeats (2019 and 2020). In each of these games, he has thrown two or more touchdown passes.
The lone encounter between Goff as a member of the Lions against the Niners took place in the 2021 season. San Francisco defeated Detroit 41-31, but the quarterback completed 38 passes for 338 yards and three touchdowns.
