Why was Atlanta Falcons full back Keith Smith arrested?

Though it appears to be nothing truly serious, it goes without saying that it’s never a good look to have one of your players seemingly crossing a legal line.

Though it appears to be nothing truly serious, it goes without saying that it’s never a good look to have one of your players seemingly crossing a legal line.

While the allegations against the Falcons player aren’t severe in nature, the apparent negligence involved does beg the question as to how his indiscretion was allowed to occur and of course what will happen as a result of it.

Falcons’ Keith Smith arrest for traffic offense

According to a statement from the City of Atlanta Police Department, Falcons fullback Keith Smith was arrested Wednesday on traffic charges. To be clear, the incident stemmed from a speeding ticket which Smith received earlier this year and subsequently paid. Thinking that was the end of it, Smith continued to drive on what was actually a suspended license. Smith’s agent explained to the media that his client was unaware of the suspension due to miscommunication. Indeed, it is understood that Smith was pulled over for an expired registration, but actually found himself being arrested for the aforementioned license issue. the Falcons player was detained in Buckhead, Atlanta.

The Falcons did in fact give comment on the developing situation, simply expressing that the franchise had been informed about it. “We are aware of a legal matter involving Keith Smith this afternoon and have been informed of its details,” the Falcons’ statement read. “We will have no further comment at this time.”

Who is Keith Smith

Fans may recall the manner in which Smith first broke into the league as an undrafted free agent out of San Jose State back in 2014. At the time, the now 31-year-old who is about to play in his 10th season, signed for the Dallas Cowboys. It was one season later in 2015, when he made the switch from linebacker to fullback and proceeded to play 32 regular-season games in the position across two seasons. In 2018, Smith moved to the Raiders, however, his stint in Oakland at the time would last only one season, with Smith being cut at the end of 2019′s training camp. From there he joined the Falcons and has been with them since. Across a total of 129 games in his career, Smith has registered 53 rushing yards on 22 carries, to the tune of 205 yards on 35 receptions. There has been no official word on what happens from here regarding the charge that Smith now faces.
