Will Deebo Samuel play for the 49ers against the Cowboys in Week 8? Latest injury update
The 49ers wide receiver is listed as questionable for Sunday night due to a wrist injury and the illness that left him hospitalized last week.
The San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys prepare to meet this Sunday, and the stakes for a regular-season showdown between these storied franchises have rarely been higher.
The Cowboys are coming off a bye week, which gave Coach Mike McCarthy and the team a chance to regroup and recalibrate. Dallas has struggled in their recent home games, facing a series of losses, so playing away could provide a fresh opportunity. Additionally, receiver CeeDee Lamb has spent his bye week working with quarterback Dak Prescott, aiming to restore their previously strong chemistry. After a disappointing performance against San Francisco last season, the team appears ready to deliver a statement game.
Meanwhile, the 49ers face a season-defining test. They‘re coming off two consecutive home losses to the Cowboys and the Chiefs—two supposed Super Bowl contenders—making this game extremely important. Injuries have hampered their depth, especially Deebo Samuel, who is dealing with both an illness and a wrist injury, making him questionable for the Week 8 matchup.
What happened with Samuel?
With tertiary wide receiver Jauan Jennings out with a hip injury, followed by fellow wideout Brandon Aiyuk’s brutal season-ending knee injury, about the only worse bit of news could have been if receiver Deebo Samuel had some issue.
Playing just three snaps before being removed from the game because he couldn‘t breathe, Samuel was ultimately admitted to the hospital the following day because of pneumonia. He had already been dealing with a wrist injury entering the game, and this was just more dreadful news.
Samuel returned to practice the week before the Sunday Night Football game.
Although he’s still listed as questionable, Samuel is expected to play against the Cowboys for their NFC showdown on Sunday Night Football.
