As Week 15 looms, the Houston Texans are facing the possibility that their starting quarterback will not play. Given the performances he’s had this season - sensational - and the team’s current record of 7-6 - not good - this is a major blow.

Texans’ C.J. Stroud is a doubt for Week 15

According to reports on Thursday, the Houston Texans’ break-out quarterback C.J. Stroud remains in concussion protocol and has yet to practice with the team ahead of the Week 15 clash with Tennessee Titans. Stroud you may recall, was forced off the field during last Sunday’s game against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium and did not return. Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans later confirmed that the 22-year-old had suffered a concussion. It is also understood that Stroud has been to the team’s facility on only a few occasions. As things stand, there has been no official word on when he is expected to return.

Backup quarterback Davis Mills weighed in on the situation when he was asked in what way Stroud had helped to prepare him for a potential start this coming Sunday. “As much as he can right now, he’s still in the protocol so he hasn’t been in the building too much,” Mills said. “C.J. has always been the guy who’s going to be extremely generous and make sure his teammates are in the best spot they can be to go out and execute on gameday.”

What exactly happened to C.J. Stroud?

Truth be told it was a rough night for Stroud and Co. as they fell 30-6 to the New York Jets. Where the former No. 2 overall pick was concerned, his unfortunate moment came with just under seven minutes to go in the game. It was on a second-and-10 play from the Houston 25-yard line when Stroud completed a six-yard pass to wide receiver John Metchie III. Though he made the pass, he was unable to avoid the oncoming tackle from Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams who took him to the ground.

Video replays of the tackle showed Stroud’s helmet slamming against the turf after his body made an initial impact with it. Though he was able to leave the field without assistance, he was taken to the locker room and the decision to replace him was taken, leaving Mills to take his place. and in stepped Mills. Understandably, the nature of Stroud’s situation requires great care, something that head coach Ryans stressed. “When it comes to the concussion or head injuries, we have to make sure we’re protecting all of our guys. It’s more about their long-term health,” Ryans said on Monday.

C.J. Stroud has put on a show this season

Despite the fact that the Texans are currently in a precarious position, Stroud has got to be given credit for what he’s done this season. The former Ohio State star led the NFL with 3,540 passing yards heading into Week 14 and was on track to register 5,015 yards Yes, that would have been a rookie record. For the season so far he has had six 300-yard passing games which is tied with Andrew Luck for second-most by a rookie all-time behind Justin Herbert who sits on eight. In total, Stroud has tallied 3,631 yards which is the second most in the NFL behind the Dolphins’ Tua Tagovailoa who currently has 3,697. The point is, this kid can play and that’s precisely why it’ll be a shame if when Sunday rolls around, he can’t.
