The Dallas Cowboys are still reeling from the embarrassing home-opener loss to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. The defense allowed 44 points to the Saints and the offense was only able to get one touchdown, a Dak Prescott pass to wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. It didn’t help that they played without Prescott’s second-favorite target, tight end Jake Ferguson.

Ferguson suffered an injury to his knee in their Week 1 season opener against the Cleveland Browns. After initial concern that the injury was something serious that could keep Ferguson out long-term, an MRI revealed good news, that he’d suffered a minor MCL sprain and some bone bruising. In just a few days, Ferguson was already pain-free, but the medical staff advised they play it safe and he was eventually ruled out of Sunday’s game.

Will Ferguson play Week 3 vs Ravens?

Heading into their Week 3 game against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, the Cowboys are looking to bounce back from the home loss to the Saints. They did receive some positive news regarding Ferguson as Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said that “everything looks on the go” for him to play this Sunday and head coach Mike McCarthy reported that he had a good practice on Monday.

Still, as Cowboys fans should know to do, they should take Jones’ words with a grain of salt. Although things are looking positive, the Cowboys are still going to monitor how Ferguson does throughout this week of practice before making a final decision on his status for Week 3′s game against the Ravens.

During last week’s loss to the Saints, Luke Schoonmaker and Brevyn Spann-Ford were in at tight end in Ferguson’s absence. Schoonmaker did okay, making an impressive one-handed catch plus five more for 43 yards. Spann-Ford didn’t contribute much, not making any catches, but did make a few blocks. Ferguson was definitely missed. Last season, he recorded 71 catches for 761 yards and five touchdowns, earning a Pro Bowl nod.

“As I’ve said throughout the week, Jake’s more than just a tight end on Sunday,” Prescott said. “He’s an aggressor. He brings a physical nature to this group. He’s got a mentality that other guys feed off of, that’s very contagious.”

Kickoff between the Cowboys and Ravens will be at 4:25 p.m. ET (3:25 p.m. local time) this Sunday, September 22 at AT&T Stadium. You can follow along with the action with our live text commentary, brought to you by yours truly, right here on AS USA.
