Will Jared Goff play for the Lions against the Packers on week 9? Latest injury update

Only the Kansas City Chiefs have a better record than the Detroit Lions as we head into Week 9. Dan Campbell’s men have lost just once - to the Bucks back at the start of September. Since then, the Lions have posted wins against the Cardinals, Seahawks, Cowboys, Vikings and Titans - a run which keeps them top of the NFC North (6-1).

Jared Goff has played a key part in that - he completed 80% of his passes in the last four games and set an NFL record in the 42-29 win against the Seahawks in Week 4 by completing all 18 of his passes for 292 yards and two scores. All of that was enough to make him NFC Offensive Player of the Month in October.

Goff has not missed a game so far this season and has completed 140-of-189 passing for 1,695 yards, 13 touchdowns (9th) and four interceptions, giving him a rating of 52.9. There was concern for the quarterback, when he injured his ankle during the first quarter of last week’s game against the Titans. “Just rolled it,” he told reporters afterwards. “I mean, you guys saw, just rolled it, get an extra day and it should be fine.”

It forced him to sit out Wednesday’s practice but he was back to full participation Thursday and Friday. Goff is not listed in the Lions injury report ahead of Sunday’s game which is good news and suggests he’ll start.

Campbell gave an update on Joshua Pashcal (illness) who missed practice all week: “He’ll be out. He and Malcolm [Rodriguez] will both be out. Nothing long-term - which is great news, and we’;re hopeful that we’ll get him back next week”.

Also ruled out is Brodric Martin (knee) while Sione Vaki (knee) and Mekhi Wingo (ankle) are both listed as doubtful.

Cold, windy and rainy in Wisconsin

Aside from injuries, one of the other obstacles that the Lions will have to contend with on Sunday is the weather. According to weather reports, there is 90% chance of showers, 15-20 mph winds and lower temperatures but the Lions’ coach says his players are prepared. “We’ll be in the elements, which is great,” Campbell told reporters. “This is like one of those – you hope for this. I think we’ll be all-white, so we’ll have the grass stains and everything rolling, man, it’s going to be good old football, the way it’s meant to be played. So, excited, great opponent, but our guys are fired up, man, they’re looking forward to this.

“It’s the nature of the grass and then being up north, we’re turning into fall, it’s getting close to winter, the sun’s going down... it’s different. It’s just different than it is in the south. It’s not like this isn’t a good turf. They’ve done a good job and it’ll be good. You’ve just gotta be aware of it, you’ve gotta wear the right cleats. As long as you do, you’ll be fine”.

The Week 9 NFL regular season game between the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Lions will be played at Lambeau Field, Green Bay, Wisconsin on Sunday 3 November and Is scheduled to kick off at 12 noon. ET / 10 a.m. PT.
