Update:

The NFL preseason continues tonight with Week 2. The Kansas City Chiefs will face the Seattle Seahawks tonight at Lumen Field starting at 10 p.m. ET.

Last week, the Chiefs had a decent showing in their preseason opener against the Arizona Cardinals despite losing 20-17. Head coach Andy Reid told quarterback Patrick Mahomes that he’d play him for one series, and it ended up being just one throw - a 1-yard touchdown pass to Jason Brownlee to take a 7-0 lead to start the game. Gardner Minshew took over from there.

Will Mahomes and Kelce play tonight?

As for the Chiefs’ star tight end Travis Kelce, he stayed on the sidelines for the preseason opener. This week, when the Chiefs face the Seahawks, it looks like Reid is going to sit Kelce again - and Mahomes as well. Minshew was the QB1 at practice on Thursday and it seems Reid would prefer to play it safe regarding his starters.

KC Star’s Blair Kerkhoff also reported that defensive tackle Chris Jones will likely sit out this one too.

For now, it looks like Minshew is set to start again, and bring his aggressive passing style against Seattle’s defense. The Chiefs’ dominant defense, a top-five unit the past two years, also won’t be at full strength.

Meanwhile, Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald plans to give quarterback Sam Darnold, wide receiver Cooper Kupp, and other starters some playing time before the regular season begins.
