Update:

Much of the talk ahead of Super Bowl LX has centered on Drake Maye and whether the New England Patriots’ star quarterback will be fit to play against the Seattle Seahawks following a shoulder issue. Now that it looks certain Maye will be ready, attention has shifted to teammate Robert Spillane.

Drake Maye returns to practice

The Patriots’ starting linebacker and defensive signal caller was the only member of the 53-man roster who missed practice at Stanford Stadium on Wednesday. Maye and Harold Landry, who had been dealing with a knee issue, were full participants.

Robert Spillane injury update

Coach Mike Vrabel is now sweating over the fitness of another key player just days before the biggest game in New England’s recent history. Spillane suffered an ankle injury on January 25 in the AFC Championship game against the Denver Broncos and was unable to finish.

Speaking at the Patriots’ pre-practice media availability on Wednesday, the 30-year-old told reporters he was unconcerned about missing the Super Bowl against the Seahawks, even though time is quickly running out.

Spillane “100% confident” of suiting up vs. Seahawks

“There’s no chance in my mind that I miss this game,” Spillane said. “It feels like I’ve been preparing for this moment for years of my life, 100% confidence from me.

“Every single day, I’ve been progressing through the injury. It’s been getting better and better and better. So, we’re exactly on track, where we need to be - running, cutting, doing all of that.”

Spillane revealed the lengths he and the Patriots’ medical staff are going to to ensure he will be ready to take his place on the field.

Treatment all day, all night, that’s my sole focus. I’m doing everything required from the training staff, and that’s 24 hours of care, taking care of it throughout the night as well. So, we’re going to stay on that plan and trust the process.”
