The New England Patriots have concluded their final practice before their preseason opener on Thursday against the Carolina Panthers. The standout of the last day of training camp was undoubtedly Drake May, who delivered one of the camp’s best performances. Despite a few late struggles, May consistently exhibited a sense of comfort and rhythm that had been missing in previous sessions.

May’s confidence was evident in the red zone, where he showcased impressive decision-making skills. Known for his prowess in this area, he delivered two pinpoint back-corner pylon throws to Quan Booty. These consecutive plays were so remarkable that the onlookers, braving the rain, erupted in chants of “Start Drake May! Start Drake May!

Jacoby gets the first call, but Maye can count on some minutes of play

While there is no official competition for the starting position, May’s performance today certainly stood out. On the other hand, Jacoby also had a solid day, displaying his usual methodical and steady approach.

Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo has confirmed that Maye will play in the preseason opener despite earlier uncertainties. Quarterback Jacoby Brissett will start the game, but he is expected to only play a series or two. This leaves Maye with plenty of opportunity to make an impact on the game.

Maye showcased his exceptional throwing arm during training camp, building a strong connection with two rookie receivers. It will be thrilling to watch him in action on Thursday night as he looks to connect with Ja’Lynn Polk and Javon Baker.

If he performs well, there’s a chance that Maye could be in contention for the starting job in New England sooner than expected.
