Will the Los Angeles Rams’ Sean McVay be available for Week 6′s game vs Philadelphia Eagles?

Though it may be shocking to some, yes there are indeed things that are more important than football. The Rams coach is about to handle one: The birth of his son.

In their last game, the Rams were convincingly put down by the still-undefeated Philadelphia Eagles. Currently sitting on a record of 2-3 and about to face a division rival, this is a critical moment for the team, but so too is it for their coach and his life off the field.

Sean McVay may be absent in Week 6 due to son’s birth

As they prepare to face the Arizona Cardinals in a key Week 6 matchup, it may be that the Los Angeles Rams will have to do so without their head coach, Sean McVay. It is understood, that the Super Bowl-winning coach is expecting a new addition to his family and very soon at that. Speaking with the media on Friday, McVay explained that his wife will likely give birth “any day now.” To that end, there is the distinct possibility that he may not be on the sidelines when his team plays on Sunday.

“Really feel fortunate that it’s been a smooth pregnancy, my wife has been incredible and, so, it hasn’t quite hit me yet,” McVay said. “He’s active right now, it seems like he’s ready to come at any moment. What a blessing that will be.”

So, who will replace Sean McVay if he’s absent?

It’s interesting to note that McVay did not actually address who will be calling plays should he finally be unavailable for the game. With that said, the logical assumption would be that Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris will be the man the team turns to, should McVay’s son make his grand entrance this weekend.

Since joining the team in 2021, Morris has led the Rams’ defensive unit and is understood to have interviewed for head-coaching jobs this offseason. Indeed, having served as interim head coach of the Atlanta Falcons in 2020, he has experience as the lead man and that’s without counting the three seasons - 2009-11 - that he was head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during which time he went 17-31.
