With A.J. Green out indefinitely, who will the Cardinals turn to at wide receiver?
The Cardinals can ill afford another loss in the wide receiver department, especially considering they just lost one indefinitely.
If things weren’t bad enough for the Cardinals, they’ve now got to contend with yet another injury and in position that they are already straining to cover.
Cardinals lose A.J. Green indefinitely
When it rains it pours and that seems to be the case in Arizona at the moment, especially where wide receivers are concerned. With DeAndre Hopkins suspended and Rondale Moore still recovering from another hamstring injury, issue, things were already bad for the Cardinals. Yet, now it seems they’ve got worse with reports indicating that wideout A.J. Green is set to miss an indefinite period of time. Just one day after the veteran WR was forced off the field, during a 20-12 loss to the defending Super Bowl champions, Los Angeles Rams, it’s now understood that Green suffered a bone bruise on his left knee. No official word was given as to when Green is expected to return.
How did A.J. Green’s injury occur?
It was just before half time, when the 34-year-old wideout - who had not posted a catch - found himself targeted by QB Kyler Murray. Fans and teammates alike could only look on in puzzlement and then concern, as the ball deflected off his facemask and the player collapsed while clutching his knee. Only with assistance, was Green able to leave the field. After the game, Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury made it clear that he had no further updates on Green and in fact did so again on Monday.
While it’s not official, one has to imagine that Green is not likely to feature in Week 4′s game against the Panthers. Though he missed just a single game between 2020 and 2021, it should be said that Green has a long-standing history with injuries. Indeed, the seven-time Pro Bowler actually sat out the entire 2019 campaign after tearing ligaments in his ankle. That was of course following the seven games which he missed in 2018 due to a toe issue. Then, there was also a hamstring problem which saw him play in just 10 games back in 2016.
How will the Cardinals cope?
If there is good news for the Cardinals, it comes in the form of Marquise “Hollywood” Brown. On Sunday gone, Brown hauled in an impressive 14 catches which is to say, alongside Greg Dortch and Andy Isabella there is cover for the injured Green, suspended Hopkins and Moore, who is yet to be fit. With that said, the situation is clearly not ideal. So, like the rest of us, the Cardinals can only sit and wait to see how this all plays out.
