The field and track events at the Olympic Games always bring a huge sense of excitement as thousands of fans fill huge stands to cheer on their countries.

As we move into Day 7, these events begin to unroll, with various athletes competing in various heats to make it to their respective finals.

Some of the most popular events are the throwing sports: discus, javelin and hammer throw all require a huge array of skills and as such, they make for a fantastic spectacle. Here’s all you need to know about what’s required from an equipment point of view.

Discus weight at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games

The Olympic discus has two weights: one for men and one for women. For the men’s competition, it weighs 2kg while for the women’s competition a 1kg discus is used. The metal disc is thrown from inside a circle that has a diameter of 2.5m.

Javelin weight at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games

The minimum weight for javelins in the women’s competition needs to be 600gm while the length of the javelin can be between 2.2m and 2.3m.

As for the men’s competitions, they must weigh a minimum of 800g and measure between 2.6m and 2.7m.

Hammer weight at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games

The rules in their current form state that the Olympic hammer should weigh 7.26 kg and have a maximum length of 1,215 mm. For women, the hammer must weigh 4 kg and measure not more than 1,195 mm.
