That's the first time I've had to update the medal table at the top of this feed today, and that water polo bronze extends Team USA's lead in terms of total medals. But does that actually matter? Or is it all about golds? And what happens when teams are tied? So many questions.

Team USA going for gold in women's basketball

There have been women's basketball at each of the last 12 Olympic Games (since 1976) and Team USA have won gold medals nine times. One of the times they didn't win was in 1980, when the US led a number of countries in boycotting the Games in Moscow following the Soviet Union's invasion of Afghanistan. So, really, they've won nine out of 11. Can they make it 10 out of 12 later today (9.30am ET) in the last event of the Olympics against host nation France? You'd think they would...

Team USA medal prospects on day 16

There are some obvious events, such as the women's volleyball and basketball gold medal matches, but could the likes of Kennedy Blades (wrestling) or Jennifer Valente (track cycling) take individual golds to add to the American tally?

There are 17 medal events taking place, the first of which is the women's marathon (which has just got underway), while the women's basketball final between Team USA and France (9:30am ET) closes out the action (don't forget about the closing ceremony, though).
