Update:

In a hard fought Olympic final in the Women’s Beach Volleyball - the first to go to a deciding third set - tensions flared under the Eiffel Tower

In the deciding third set Brazil’s Eduarda ‘Duda’ Santos Lisboa and Canada’s Brandie Wilkerson disagreed on a call and started arguing furiously at the net.

Their partners, Brazilian Ana Patricia Silva Ramos, and Canadian Melissa Humana Paredes, along with the match referee tried to calm the two players, but to little avail as the tension of the moment saw them refuse to back down. Eventually Wilkerson picked up a yellow card.

But it was the stadium DJ who came to the rescue to put frayed tempers to bed, playing John Lennon’s Imagine - the unofficial Olympic anthem - which saw the crowd singing along with their arms in the air and ended up with Wilkerson laughing at the moment as the Olympic spirit triumphed.

After the incident the Brazilians moved into a commanding lead and secured the gold medal, winning the final set 15-10
