France bags bronze in judo
It's another medal for the hosts! Maxime-Gaël Ngayap Hambou continues France's impressive start to the 2024 Games with a third place finish in judo men's 90kg.
"She got game!" Team USA's No.1 hypeman Flavor Flav salutes Rugby 7s bronze
Public Enemy's Flavor Flav has fully immersed himself into the spirit of the Paris Olympics. After cheering on the US women’s water polo team, he lent his support from the stands to the women's Rugby Sevens team, who picked up the bronze medal, beating Australia 14-12.
Djokovic makes more Olympic history
An Olympic gold medal is one of the few things which Novak Djokovic has never won during his glittering career. His 2024 Paris campaign continues after beating Germany's Dominik Koepfer 7-5 6-3. Greece's Stefanos Tsitsipas awaits him in the quarter finals.
Djokovic has already made history by become the first player to reach four Olympic quarter finals in the men's singles event, ahead of Roger Federer and Kei Nishikori, both with three.
Heartbreak for Team GB's Luke Greenbank
Team GB's Luke Greenbank recorded the fastest time in the 200m backstroke heats only to be disqualified for being underwater for too long at the start of his race.
According to World Aquatics rules, swimmers are not allowed to go beyond the 15-meter mark while still underwater. By that point the swimmer's head must have broken the surface.
Charly advances
Carlos Alcaraz booked his place in the next round of the men's tennis singles, seeing off Roman Safiullin 6-4 6-2. The Wimbledon winner is also the youngest player to make it to the quarter finals since Novak Djokovic in 2008.
If the Spaniard goes on to win the men's singles in Paris, he will emulate his Olympic doubles partner Rafa Nadal as the only players to have won the French Open and Olympics in the same year.
Argentina pick up first ever cycling gold
Jose Torres Gil made history by picking up Argentina's first ever cycling gold. The 29-year-old won the the BMX freestyle event - and the county's first gold in any event since Rio 2016.
Jose Torres Gil is an Olympic BMX freestyle gold medalist!
After an intense battle between six riders in the men's BMX freestyle park final, it's Jose Torres Gil of Argentina who comes out on top, taking the gold medal following an impressive performance that held off the challenge of the 2023 World and European champion, Kieran Reilly of Great Britain!
The Americans were making history even before they did so once again at these Olympic Games in Paris. That's precisely why the team's new nickname - cheeky though it is - is perhaps the best one yet.
Jamaica's Shericka Jackson is out!
While it's not medal related, it's still very big news as Jamaica's Shericka Jackson has just confirmed that she will not be competing in the women's 100m at Paris 2024.
A bronze medal winner in the same event at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and silver medalist at the 2023 world championships, Jackson will now be replaced by Shashalee Forbes, who finished fourth at the Jamaican trials.
There has been no word on whether Jackson will compete in the women's 200m or be a part of Jamaica's relay team.
Deng that's cool!
China's Yawen Deng has claimed the gold medal over at La Concorde in women's BMX freestyle park after holding off challenges from Natalya Diehm of Australia and Queen Saray Villegas Serna of Colombia!
It's been almost two decades since the Americans secured a medal in men's team gymnastics, but it looks as though they could be in line for a long-lasting period of success in the future if athletes like Frederick Richard remain part of the setup.
Rowing gold for British women
The medals are starting to fly in today. No sooner have the Netherlands won gold than they've been pipped to it by a late surge from the British women.
Rowers Lauren Henry, Hannah Scott, Lola Anderson, and Georgina Brayshaw take the Olympic gold in the women's quad sculls over the Dutch by .15 of a second.
Germany take the bronze.
Netherlands row their way to gold
The men's quadruple sculls title goes to the Netherlands team, two of which were also in the four that won it in Tokyo. Tone Wieten, Koen Metsemakers, Lennart van Lierop and Finn Florijn claimed gold in a time of 5:42.00
Silver went to the Italian team and bronze was won by Poland.
Yee-pee!! Gold for Team GB in men's triathlon
Alex Yee has brought home the men's triathlon gold for Great Britain – learn more about this team's sometimes confusing name – after trailling New Zealand's Hayden Wilde by 14 seconds with just two km left.
What a recovery!
19 seconds in 92 years
That's right. As we look ahead to the final later today, our friends at the Olympics have shared this lovely split screen footage of the women's 100m freestyle finals of 1928 and 2020.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that today's winning time – and last place's time, to be honest – will be somewhat closer to that of Tokyo.
Cassandre Beaugrand wins gold for hosts France
Beaugrand came home in the women's triathlon to rapturous applause and screams from her compatriots on the streets of Paris, and claimed gold. France slide up into second place in the table for the time being.
Julie Derron added a silver medal for Switzerland and Team GB's Beth Potter takes the bronze. Well done to everyone in that event. A tough gig!
Did you know that in artistic gymnastics there are two main components to a gymnast’s final score: the Difficulty and the Execution, known as the D-score and E-score?
Well, before Biles and the rest get out for more stunning demonstrations of their abilities, get familiar for how the judges view their efforts.
Triathlon underway
The women's triathlon is go, with the swimming first leg along the Seine given the green light earlier.
Then comes the cycle. Then the run. Around two hours of gruelling competition. Fabulous, isn't it?
Olympics from space
Even the NASA crew are in the Olympics mood up above us in the International Space Station. Imagine Simone Biles could perform with zero gravity. I'd pay plenty to see that!
One of the biggest headlines from yesterday's action was the gold won by Team USA in the women's gymnastics. Simone Biles led the way and with that medal made history.
And she still has more to go for. An incredible comeback from an amazing athlete.
