OLYMPIC GAMES

How many times has Simone Biles competed in the Olympic Games?

One of the most successful gymnasts in history earned her spot on the Olympic Games team in Paris at the United States National Trials.

With Simone Biles now officially confirming her presence in Paris this summer, this will also mark the third time the American woman will participate in the biggest show of world sports. In Rio 2016, she won four golds; in Tokyo 2021, she withdrew from the competition. She returned to the competition in August last year.

Biles at the Minneapolis qualifiers

By emerging victorious in the all-around competition at the American qualifiers in Minneapolis, she earned herself a well-deserved visa for Paris. At the Olympic trials, Biles placed first in the all-around, despite a fall of the Balance Beam on Day 2; she won with over 5 points over runner-up Sunisa Lee, the Tokyo 2020 reigning Olympic all-around champion. She was second on the uneven bars, fourth on the balance beam, and first on the floor; Biles achieved an impressive score of 117,225 points.

In the post-tournament press conference, she confidently stated, “I knew I had more to achieve in Tokyo,” probably confirming her form and attitude for the upcoming games. Biles knows very well the weight of the chip on her shoulder and the expectations of the American gymnastics public.

Previous Olympic success

In her two Olympic participations, she has amassed four Olympic gold medals and an impressive 23 world champion titles throughout her career. With four Olympic gold medals, Biles set an American record for most gold medals in women’s gymnastics at a single Games and equaled several other records with her medals won in Rio.

Biles and her teammate Gabby Douglas are the only American female gymnasts to win both the individual all-around gold and team gold at the same Olympics. Douglas won both at the 2012 London Games.
