Who designed Mongolia’s Winter Olympics uniforms for opening ceremony?
Mongolia’s opening ceremony uniforms for Milano–Cortina 2026 blend imperial history, nomadic heritage and luxury cashmere.

Fashion and sport will intersect once again on the global stage at the Milano–Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics – and one unexpected protagonist has already captured all the attention.
Mongolia has unveiled the uniforms its delegation will wear at the opening ceremony, and the reaction has been strikingly unanimous: they are set to be one of the most anticipated appearances of the Olympic parade.
The impact is no accident. As highlighted by Vogue, the Mongolian team already caused a stir two years ago at the Paris Summer Games with an aesthetic proposal that broke away from conventional Olympic design codes. For 2026, the Asian nation is doubling down with a collection that blends tradition, cultural identity and premium materials.
The designs were created by GOYOL, a label specializing in Mongolian cashmere – a material historically tied to the survival of nomadic peoples facing the extreme winters of Central Asia. The collection draws directly from the attire of the Great Mongol Empire between the 13th and 15th centuries, one of the most influential periods in the country’s history.
Mongolia uniforms with practical uses
Far from a purely aesthetic reinterpretation, the uniforms preserve traditional functional elements: openings that allow ease of movement, high collars to protect against the cold, and overlapping front closures that symbolize unity and warmth. These features are paired with silk finishes and embroidery featuring ancestral motifs, giving the pieces a ceremonial feel without sacrificing contemporary elegance.
Beyond the official outfits for the parade, the collection also includes casual cashmere knitwear inspired by classic Western alpine ski sweaters, reimagined with symbols of nomadic life and the traditional Mongolian ger. Some of these pieces are already available to the public, with prices around $785 for the ceremonial deel.
