Carlos Alcaraz’s singles Olympic dream is still alive after his outstanding victory in the third round of the men’s singles tournament at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The Spaniard, who won 6-4 and 6-2 sets against the Russian player Roman Safiulin, is one step closer to reaching the singles medal games. Alacarz also defeated Hady Habib in the first round and Tallon Griekspoor afterward.

The rival of the 21-year-old player in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games quarterfinals will be the American Tommy Paul.

Who is Carlos Alcaraz’s rival Tommy Paul?

Born in New Jersey in 1997, Tommy Paul became a tennis professional in 2015 and has been escalating positions in the ATP ranking since. Paul is 13th in the ATP ranking, although he reached 12th place in 2023, with a record of 31 wins and 11 losses this year.

Tommy Paul’s first ATP title was the Stockholm Open when he defeated Canadian Denis Shapovalov in sets of 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. Most recently, Paul won the 2024 Dallas Open against compatriot Marcos Giron and the 2024 Cinch Championships in London against Lorenzo Musetti.

The head-to-head between Alcaraz and Paul favors the Spaniard, who has won three of their five games. Their last meeting was in July 2024 in the Wimbledon quarterfinals, where Alcaraz advanced to the next round after defeating Tommy Paul with sets of 5-7, 6-4, 6-2, and 6-2.

Carlos Alcaraz- Tommy Paul’s quarterfinal game at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will be played on Thursday, August 1, with the starting time yet to be confirmed.
