The curtain comes down on PGA’s 2022 season with Tour Championship

With the 2022 PGA Tour Championship coming to an end this August with the FedEx Cup Playoffs, it’s an exciting time to be a golf fan. Indeed, after 40-plus tournaments and two playoff events, the PGA Tour season will conclude at the Tour Championship in Atlanta. It should be noted that a full field of players won’t be present, but instead just the top 30 players from the FedEx Cup standings, which is of course now set following last week’s BMW Championship.

What’s the format for the 2022 FedEx Cup?

As we head into the Tour Championship, you might be wondering how it all works. No worries, we’ve got you covered. For starters, it’s extremely important to be entering the tournament in the top five or top 10. Why you might ask? That’s because of scoring is dispersed. Scottie Schefler for example, who is still first in the standings following the BMW Championship will start the Tour Championship at 10 under, while defending champion Patrick Cantlay will start at 8 under, 3rd placed Will Zalatoris at -7 and so on. As one can imagine, with the kind of cash that’s up for grabs these margins will become ever more important as the tournament goes on. If you’re wondering, the eventual winners of the last three FedEx Cups have started first, fifth and first at the Tour Championship.

2022 FedEx Cup: When, Where, Who and How much?

With tee off taking place later this week, the Tour Championship will run from August 25th - 28th at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia. As mentioned above, there will be a 30-man field vying for the purse in Georgia and let’s be clear, the purse is huge, record huge to in fact. The $18 million prize for the winner of the 2022 FedEx Cup will mark the largest single payout in golf’s history. Indeed, the top 4 alone will be taking home at least $4 million all the way down to 30th who will take home a not small amount of $500,000.

If you’re wondering who will be on show in Atlanta, rest assured some of golf’s best will be out on the course. That includes, four-time major champion Rory McIlroy, World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, defending FedEx Cup champion Patrick Cantlay, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Will Zalatoris, Adam Scott and more. That’s all to say, golf fans are in for a true treat when the 2022 FedEx Cup gets off and running this week.
