2023 BMW Championship: Round 1 tee times, pairings and featured groups
The top 50 players of the PGA Tour season will be at this week’s 2023 BMW Championship, the second leg of the season-ending FedEx Cup Playoffs.
It’s not every day you get to have a showcase of the best in the sport, but that’s exactly what’s about to go down at Olympia Fields in Illinois when the 2023 BMW Championship gets underway. From defending champion Patrick Cantlay to Jon Rahm who looks to be one of the favorites, it’s going to be a great show.
2023 BMW Championship: What are we looking at?
When the 2023 BMW Championship tees off on Thursday morning, the field of 50 will face the North Course at the Olympia Fields Country Club which plays to a challenging 7,366 yards as a par 70. The last time the tournament was played there was in 2020 when Jon Rahm secured a more than impressive walk-off playoff victory over Dustin Johnson in a battle between the then-No. 2 and No. 1 golfers in the world. Where this year is concerned, Rahm enters as one of the clear favorites, having already won the most events on the PGA Tour this season with four. He is the current leader in the FedExCup Standings despite his T37 at the recently concluded FedEx St. Jude Championship.
Yet, there is also defending 2022 BMW Championship winner, Patrick Cantlay. Interestingly, Cantalay will be looking to make it three in a row this year, having won the tournament in 2021 as well when it was played at Caves Valley Golf Club. What’s more is that the former UCLA Bruin is fresh off a solid performance in the FedEx St. Jude Championship, as he finished runner-up to winner Lucas Glover in a playoff. Mind you, Glover is now on back-to-back wins having clinched victory at the aforementioned FedEx St. Jude Championship, as well as the Wyndham Championship before it. Of course, there’s also Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy who have been having eye-opening seasons as well. This is all to say the field is stacked, so expect a show.
So, what are the tee times and pairings?
As mentioned before, defending champion Patrick Cantlay will return and is set to play alongside Max Homa (10:54 a.m.) in a morning marquee pairing, with world Nos. 1 and 3 Scottie Scheffler and Jon Rahm (1:38 p.m.) as the afternoon featured group. You can see the full list below:
