UFC White House event nearly targeted - FBI director now facing backlash
An alleged plot involving drones and explosives targeting the White House UFC event has sparked criticism over how details were publicly revealed.

A high-profile UFC event held at the White House earlier this month has become the center of an unexpected controversy after federal officials revealed an alleged plot targeting the gathering, and how that information was made public is now drawing criticism.
According to authorities, multiple suspects were arrested in connection with an alleged plan to carry out an attack involving drones and explosives tied to the event, which drew significant national attention.
However, beyond the initial security concerns, FBI Director Kash Patel facing scrutiny from current and former law enforcement officials over his decision to publicly disclose details of the case while it was still unfolding.

A security scare tied to a major sporting event
The UFC event, staged at the White House, was one of the most unusual and high-profile settings for a fight card, bringing together sports and politics on a national stage.
Officials say the alleged plot was disrupted before it could be carried out, with multiple arrests made as part of a multi-state operation involving federal agencies. At the time, details surrounding the investigation had not been publicly released.

The controversy began when Patel shared information about the arrests on social media, stating that suspects had been “stopped” and praising the work of federal agencies involved. But according to several former FBI officials, the investigation was still active at the time of the post, and key details were reportedly under seal, meaning they were not intended to be publicly disclosed.
Critics within the law enforcement community say the move may have violated standard protocol and risked undermining the integrity of the investigation.
“This is a very serious issue,” one former official said, noting that releasing information tied to a sealed case can carry legal and professional consequences.
Some officials have argued that prematurely revealing details of the alleged plot could have complicated efforts to identify additional suspects or fully assess the scope of the threat. Others say the situation reflects a concern about how information related to sensitive investigations is communicated publicly in general.
Patel has previously defended his approach to sharing updates, emphasizing transparency and the importance of informing the public about security threats. Federal officials, however, have pushed back on claims that the investigation was compromised, stating that arrests have continued and that the case remains ongoing.
