Rory McIlroy is being backed by the bookmakers to take victory on home soil this week, as the 2024 Irish Open takes place at Royal County Down Golf Club in Northern Ireland.

The 68th edition of the European Tour event, which runs until Sunday, gets underway tomorrow.

Who are other favourites at the Irish Open?

McIlroy, who won the tournament in 2016, is the +600 favourite, per Oddschecker, ahead of the Republic of Ireland’s Shane Lowry (+1100), who is also a former champion. Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre, whose prospects of triumphing are valued at +1600, is the third favourite.

Sweden’s Vincent Norrman goes into the 2024 Irish Open as the defending champion, but is a +27500 outsider to retain his title.
