Alcaraz sends simple message to Djokovic after US Open win
The Spanish tennis player was disappointed not to make the final but had something to say to the Serbian champ, who replied in Spanish.
Novak Djokovic’s victory in the US Open final was followed by an outpouring of unbridled praise across the world of tennis and beyond. The Serbian star was being congratulated having won his unprecedented twenty-fourth Grand Slam title.
The Alcaraz-Djokovic exchange
Despite the disappointment of not meeting Djokovic in the final, which most onlookers had expected, Spanish wonderkid Carlos Alcaraz wanted to publicly send his own message to the man who continues to be the top dog in the game. The outgoing US champ and current winner of Wimbledon joined in with a simple “Many congrats!” post for the Serbian. Carlitos also sent a congratulations to women’s champion Coco Gauff.
The Serbian, who has been very active on social media responding to congratulatory messages, especially from sports figures from his nation, also responded to Alcaraz’s congratulations, and in Spanish.
“Gracias tio,“ a simple equivalent to “thanks buddy” suggested a strong element of sportsmanship between the two despite the intense rivalry that has already begun between them. And we expect more of that in the coming months and years.
