In the lead-up to his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk, Tyson Fury has made a significant change: his father, John Fury, will not be in his corner for the fight. This decision follows criticism of John’s conduct during their previous bout in May, where Tyson suffered his first professional loss. Observers noted that John’s presence contributed to a chaotic atmosphere, with some describing his behavior as “unprofessional.”

During the recent open workout in Riyadh, Tyson added to the intrigue by refusing to throw a single punch. Clad in an orange hoodie, he entered the ring, bobbed up and down in the corner, and then exited without engaging in any pad work. When approached for comments, he offered only a terse promise of “a lot of pain” and “smash and damage” for Usyk on fight night.

Head trainer SugarHill Steward confirmed the change in the corner lineup, stating that the team would consist solely of himself, assistant trainer Andy Lee, and a cutman. He emphasized that Tyson is “100 percent ready” and that their training reflects an intent to bring “pain and knockouts,” aligning with the aggressive philosophy of the Kronk Gym.

This adjustment comes after widespread criticism of John’s role in the May fight, where his vocal presence was seen as contributing to a disorganized corner. Notably, John was involved in a physical altercation before the fight, headbutting a member of Usyk’s team, which added to the controversy.

As the December 21 rematch approaches, Tyson’s decision to streamline his corner and his unusual behavior during the open workout have added layers of intrigue to an already highly anticipated bout. Fans and analysts alike are eager to see how these changes will impact his performance against Usyk.
