Bradley slams Canelo: what did the former champ and boxing insider say about the Mexican?

Saul Alvarez has been widely criticized by some boxing fans and colleagues over the years, being accused of taking on the top names when they were well past their primes and cherry-picking his rivals now that he has the champion status and is known as boxing’s cash cow.

The Guadalajara native has often been bothered by the criticism he has received during his career. However, he believes he has earned to choose his rivals after all his accomplishments inside the ring.

The undisputed super middleweight king has proven he’s one of the best boxers in recent times, but many believe he’s not the prototype of the Mexican fighter who likes to brawl and is ready for a war.

While he had little trouble defeating the tough Jaime Munguia last time out, many believe he should eye bigger fights, against top fighters like David Benavidez or Dmitry Bivol, who already beat the Mexican.

Bradley opens up on Canelo and criticizes his mentality

One of the last former boxers to talk about Canelo Alvarez is former world champion and commentator Tim Bradley.

The American didn’t bite his tongue and explained why he doesn’t like Alvarez’s attitude as the current king in the 168 lbs division.

“You’re holding the straps hostage. I’m letting you all know right now. Canelo’s got a yellow stripe running down his damn back! Yes, he does, people”, he said on Deep Waters.

“You know what that means, he’s soft. Canelo is soft. Step up and face a real fighter in [David] Benavidez. Someone who has rightfully earned his spot, someone who wants that world championship that you have”, he added.

Bradley also spoke about Canelo potentially fighting Edgar Berlanga or Chris Eubank Jr. in September.

“If he fights Eubank or Berlanga…bro, come on, man,” Bradley said. “We’re not getting the best possible fight out there. We want to see the Benavidez fight”, he concluded.
