Canelo ahead of his fight with Charlo: “I’m ready”

The Mexican superstar is excited to face Jermell Charlo on September 30 in a fight where all his belts will be on the line.

A fiery battle is expected when Saúl Álvarez and Jermell Charlo meet inside the ring for the super middleweight crown on September 30 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

It will be one of the most dangerous and tricky fights for the Mexican, as all of his four belts will be on the line when he faces the light middleweight king in a fight he’s expected to win as it will take place in his natural weight division.

Moreover, this will be Canelo’s first clash of his three-fight deal with Premier Boxing Champions, so a loss would make it very difficult for him to find top-level boxers interested in fighting him, which would also translate into losing money.

Canelo: “I’m always ready”

However, and despite being criticised for his last performances, Canelo, 32, says he’s very excited and ready to face Charlo during the presentation of the bout.

“I’m very happy that we got to make a fight of this magnitude between two undisputed champions. Jermell Charlo has also faced the best in his division”, he said to Little Giant Boxing.

I’m always ready. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve always been in the gym training, being ready. I’m ready for whatever comes. I don’t have anything to do except to train”, he added.

Boxing is my life. The day I lose my love for boxing, I’ll retire. Boxing is my life. I can’t be without training for too long”, he continued.

Álvarez also talked about his hunger to keep making history in boxing. While some believe he has lost the will and determination he used to have, Canelo stated that his motivation and love for the sport haven’t changed:

“The day I lose my love for boxing or the motivation, I will retire. Thank God, I’ve done many things, and I don’t have to be here if I don’t want to. Therefore, I’m here because I love boxing and because I like doing it. I love boxing more now because I’ve seen the results, and I’m satisfied with everything that I’ve done, and I like it more. I like accomplishing my goals, and that is a big motivation for me”.

If Canelo comes out on top against Charlo, he might try to keep looking for a rematch with Dmitry Bivol at 175 lbs, although the Russian has made it clear that he would also be interested in facing him if the fight takes place at super middleweight (168).
