Two extremely tough fighters will face each other on Saturday in Las Vegas.

Undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez will once more step up a weight class to challenge WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol, hoping to add another belt to his name. The Mexican last fought in this division in 2019, when he conquered Sergey Kovalev.

Canelo Alvarez vs. Dmitry Bivol: Battle of outstanding fighters

The Ring considers Alvarez (57-1-2, 39 KOs) to be the current number one pound-for-pound boxer, who last fought against Caleb Plant, from whom he wrested the IBF super middleweight belt. He became the undisputed champion after that bout, having earlier won the WBA, WBC, WBO, and The Ring titles.

Meanwhile, Bivol is an undefeated fighter with a record of 19-0, 11 of which where knockouts. He has defended his title multiple times, and The Ring ranks him the world’s second-best active light-heavyweight fighter.

Alvarez has signed an agreement to return to DAZN for two fights. The bout with the Russian is the first, and the second will be a defense of his undisputed super middleweight title and rematch against rival Gennadiy Golovkin in September.

Canelo Alvarez vs. Dmitry Bivol: Fight purse

No matter the outcome, Alvarez and Bivol will both receive handsome payouts this weekend. According to The Sports Grail, Alvarez is expected to take home a guaranteed purse of $15 million, while Bivol is set to receive $2 million. These amounts are expected to increase significantly when PPV shares are taken into account. Canelo will receive 70%, while the light heavyweight champ will bring in 30%.

The Alvarez-Bivol fight will take place on Saturday, May 7 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The main card will start at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT, with the main event fighters doing their ring walks around 11 p.m. ET / 8 p.m. PT.
