Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford: fight format explained: rounds, weigh-in, rules...
Everything you need to know about the super-middleweight showdown, from the 12-round format to the weigh-in and rules.

Canelo Álvarez will face Terence Crawford in Las Vegas on Saturday, September 13, in what is expected to be one of the biggest fights of 2025.
Dana White, president of the UFC and co-founder of newly launched Zuffa Boxing, revealed that the bout is already the third-highest-grossing event in boxing history. Speaking to KSNV News 3 Las Vegas, White confirmed that the card at Allegiant Stadium has surpassed nearly every boxing event in gate revenue, trailing only two monumental clashes of the past decade: Mayweather–Pacquiao (2015) and Mayweather–McGregor (2017).
What belts are on the line in Álvarez vs. Crawford?
The Álvarez vs. Crawford fight will be the inaugural event under Zuffa Boxing, promoted as both “Once In A Lifetime” and “There Can Only Be One.” Álvarez will defend his super-middleweight world titles, with the WBO, WBA, IBF, and WBC belts, as well as the Ring Magazine title, all on the line.
For Crawford, this is an opportunity to become the first male fighter in the four-belt era to win an undisputed title in three weight classes.
Pro boxing records head-to-head
Álvarez enters the fight with a 63-2-2 record, including 39 knockouts. The 35-year-old has participated in 27 world title fights, winning 24 and securing 11 world titles in total.
Crawford, meanwhile, boasts an undefeated 41-0 record with 31 knockouts. The American has won all 19 of his world title bouts, claiming 10 titles along the way.
Álvarez vs. Crawford: weigh-in and rehydration clause
As a world title fight, the match will take place over 12 rounds. The super-middleweight bout has a weight limit of 168 pounds, with the official weigh-in scheduled for Friday, September 12.
However, Crawford confirmed earlier this summer that there will be no rehydration clause, meaning there is no upper weight limit between the weigh-in and fight night. “I want him at his best,” Crawford said. “I don’t want any excuses. I don’t want any reasons why he doesn’t feel good. I want him at his best.”
What time is Álvarez vs. Crawford?
The main card is expected to begin at 8:00 P.M. ET on Saturday, 13 September, with main-event ring walks due at approximately 11:00 P.M. ET.
