Canelo predicts a “big win for Mexico” against Charlo

The Mexican superstar believes he has all the tools to emerge victorious on September 30th against Jermell Charlo.

Update:
The Mexican superstar believes he has all the tools to emerge victorious on September 30th against Jermell Charlo.

The countdown for one of the most interesting fights of the year has begun. Saúl Álvarez will be facing Jermell Charlo at the T-Mobile Arena, in Las Vegas, in a bout where all of his super middleweight belts will be on the line.

Canelo is the favorite to come out on top, as he will be fighting in his division, while Charlo will go up two categories to challenge the Guadalajara native.

Mell, who is looking to become the second man in boxing history to become undisputed in two different weight divisions after Terence Crawford did so by defeating Errol Spence Jr., wasn’t initially on Canelo’s plans.

Canelo’s team had previously chosen his brother, the undefeated Jermall Charlo, to be his opponent, but he was quickly replaced by his brother Jermell due to personal issues.

Canelo, confident about getting a big win for Mexico

Although Jermell is training hard and 100% focused on the upcoming fight, Canelo believes he will get his hand raised when both fighters meet inside the ring at the end of the month.

I still feel young & fresh, and I never think about the end of my career. I just train and fight every year, and I feel great. I think it’s one of the greatest camps I ever had,” Canelo said to Premier Boxing Champions.

“I’m glad I’m able to train 100% now with my left hand. You see a little bit, and that’s made me feel confident because when you’re 100%, you feel confident. When you train knowing your 100%, you feel confident in the fight,” he added.

The Mexican doesn’t believe that the fact that Jermell had to go up two weight classes will affect his performance in a negative way:

“(...) He’s good for 168. I did that before. I jumped two weight classes, and I think when you’re a great champion, it doesn’t matter”.

“I can do everything in the ring and adapt to any style. It’s going to be a great fight, but I expect a big win for Mexico”, he concluded.

Álvarez seems to be dealing well with the pressure of having to win to keep being considered a superstar. A loss against Charlo would definitely be very negative for Eddy Reynoso’s pupil in terms of legacy, while a win for Charlo would translate into making history in the sport and guaranteeing another big PPV event in a more than likely rematch.
