Canelo’s blunt response to Jake Paul’s challenge
Mexican boxer Saúl Álvarez responded to the gauntlet thrown to him by Tyson’s conqueror.
After defeating Mike Tyson by unanimous decision in his latest fight, Jake Paul improved his record to 11 wins and just one loss. Following the victory, the YouTuber issued a challenge to Mexican boxer Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez.
“He knows where the money is, and he needs me more than I need him. He knows I’m the one who can bring in the big audiences and the money boxing needs right now,” Paul said after his big win.
Canelo “not interested” in Paul “spectacle”
However, it didn’t take long for a response from the king of the 168-pound division, who believes that everything surrounding the influencer-turned-boxer is more show than substance.
“It’s good that Netflix is interested, but not in this type of fight. I think it’s more of a spectacle than a real fight. I’m not interested,” was the blunt message from Mexican boxer Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez to TMZ Sports.
Canelo’s Netflix boxing critique
While Canelo supports Netflix’s involvement in the world of boxing, he criticized the platform for backing a fight he deemed “not serious.” He firmly stated, “Netflix is doing something wrong with this.”
Mexican sports journalist David Faitelson praised the boxer’s decisive response and also described Paul’s fights as “circus acts.”
“I applaud Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez for firmly rejecting Jake Paul’s offer to fight. Canelo still belongs to serious, professional boxing, not the circus... And with all due respect, in two rounds, he could practically kill that YouTuber,” Faitelson wrote on his ‘X’ account.
