Carlos Alcaraz’s work plan to be in top shape at the Australian Open

The Spanish star will spend some time off with his friends and family and play some matches before the first major of 2024. Here are all the details.

The 2023 season is over and it’s time for the players to enjoy a well-deserved break. Carlos Alcaraz is, without a doubt, one of them, as the Spaniard has played as much as his body has allowed him this campaign.

As it happened in 2022, the Murcia native started the year strong, looking rock-solid in the first events of the season, a good form that he managed to extend until the end of the US Open.

After the fourth and last Grand Slam tournament of the year, the 20-year-old star started feeling the fatigue of a very demanding calendar. The fact that the four majors had already been played possibly had something to do with it too on a player whose goal is to be at his very best in the biggest events.

After suffering back-to-back losses in Shanghai and Paris, his coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, said he needs to be competitive during the whole calendar, and that’s what he will probably work on with Alcaraz from now on.

Alcaraz’s tennis agenda before the Australian Open

According to the Spanish tennis site Punto de Break, Alcaraz won’t play any tournament before the Australian Open. His team wants to make sure that the two-time major champion gets to Melbourne without lots of fatigue.

Their idea is to help Carlitos be in top shape by combining some holidays with his family and friends and an appropriate training plan.

Ferrero and his staff’s objective is to see Alcaraz make the necessary adjustments and learn from his mistakes, besides preparing him mentally too.

Alcaraz will get back to his training sessions on December 8, which will last until December 24. He will get his preparations at Juan Carlos Ferrero Tennis Academy.

Before that, Alcaraz will fly to Mexico to take on Tommy Paul in an exhibition match on November 29 and will then go to the Dominican Republic with some friends to enjoy some days off.

After spending Christmas with his family, he will take a plane to Saudi Arabia to play another exhibition game, although this time against the current world No. 1, Novak Djokovic, on December 27.

After that, Alcaraz will fly back home to spend New Year’s Eve with his family and keep training before flying to Australia between January 5-7.

He will be in Melbourne one week before the start of the Australian Open (January 7-13) so that he can get familiar with the conditions and the courts there.

Alcaraz is not expected to feature in the exhibition tournament Kooyong Classic, but it hasn’t been confirmed yet. What is a sure thing is that he will continue his training sessions and will play some sets against top players to get the competition rhythm before the start of the first major of the season.
