Conor McGregor returns: what was his last fight and how long has he been retired?
After finishing UFC 300, Dana White has officially announced the return of Conor McGregor three years later. We take a look back.
The world of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) has just witnessed one of the most eagerly anticipated moments since before the pandemic. Conor McGregor, the biggest star in the history of MMA, has returned to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Dana White, the CEO of the company, confirmed this during the post-UFC 300 press conference.
When will McGregor return to UFC?
For several days, speculation has been rife regarding the imminent return of the Irishman to the octagon, which will finally occur on 29 June at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas amidst the International Fight Week (IFW), a crucial week for the world’s leading promoter, which is experiencing a phenomenal year in terms of events.
‘The Notorious’ will make his comeback to the cage at UFC 303 against Michael Chandler, his clear challenger since they were both foes and rivals in the latest edition of ‘The Ultimate Fighter,’ the UFC’s reality show. As anticipated, the showdown between McGregor and Chandler will take place in the 170-pound welterweight division, marking Conor’s third weight class as a professional (featherweight, lightweight, and welterweight).
As McGregor’s return sparks a media frenzy that will endure over the coming months. After three years of inactivity due to an injury sustained in his last fight with Poirier, Conor, now more enigmatic than ever, faces Chandler, who never shies away from confrontation. This sets the stage for an epic battle.
Capitalizing on the uproar caused by this news, White has unveiled the two headline fights for UFC 302: Makhachev vs. Poirier and Strickland vs. Paulo Costa. This event will take place in New Jersey, marking a return for the Dagestani champion to defend his title on hostile territory, reminiscent of his first fight against Volkanovski.
