Conor McGregor’s alleged assault case reopened
A woman is suing the Irish UFC legend for assaulting her when on his yacht celebrating his birthday.
On July 17 of last year, Conor McGregor decided to celebrate his 34th birthday in style, with a big party on his yacht in the Balearic Islands, passing through Ibiza and Formentera, among other areas. The party, though, didn’t go as expected, since the Irish fighter himself was denounced by a woman who claimed to have been attacked by him.
The alleged victim reported having been beaten when she was rescued from the sea by a Red Cross rescue boat. She also stated that she had suffered bruises all over her body and several fractures in her hand. She accused McGregor of badly hurting one of her wrists after having kicked and punched her, as well as forcing her to get out of his boat.
The case was filed after the woman tried to file a complaint at the Formentera hospital, where she was taken to be treated, but felt frustrated by “the lack of understanding of the language and wanted to return to Ireland.”
When she got to her country she was assisted by a Spanish lawyer and she was able to issue a statement to the “Irish Garda” [Irish police] for more than six hours, so she presented her complaint and took legal action against the UFC fighter, as reported by newspaper Última Hora.
A double process, in Spain and Ireland
The investigation is already underway with the collaboration of the police from both countries, who have reopened the case after suggesting the victim ratify her statement in the coming days and initiate a double legal process: the criminal proceeding in Spain, and on the other hand the civil proceeding that will take place in Ireland, where they are both from.
The alleged victim explained she attended McGregor’s birthday party, first in a nightclub, then sharing a limousine, and later on the fighter’s yacht, where he was having a party with his closest friends, where they would have had an argument after swimming together which ended with a violent reaction from McGregor. In addition, she provided photographs and medical evidence of the injuries she suffered that day.
