Update:

Good Good Golf’s controversial advertisement has quickly become much more than a social-media headache for the popular golf-content company.

The fallout has now reached the PGA Tour, which is evaluating its relationship with Good Good less than three months before the brand is scheduled to have its name attached to a Tour event.

Why is the PGA Tour reconsidering its relationship with Good Good?

The controversy began with an advertisement promoting a collaboration between Good Good and Callaway Golf for a new Quantum driver.

The video featured Good Good co-founder Garrett Clark confronting fellow Good Good golfer Alexis Miestowski after she reached toward the golf bag. Clark was shown pushing Miestowski to the ground before warning her not to touch his new driver.

The advertisement was quickly criticized for appearing to make light of violence against women and was subsequently removed.

Good Good apologized, saying the video did not represent the company’s values. Callaway also apologized, with CEO Chip Brewer acknowledging that although Good Good produced the advertisement, Callaway approved it and that approval should never have happened. The company said it was conducting internal and external investigations and had changed its approval procedures.

Clark later apologized as well, explaining that the concept had been intended as a parody but acknowledging that the execution was wrong. The PGA Tour’s response has been notably stronger than simply acknowledging the apology. Rolapp said the Tour was disappointed by Good Good’s initial response but recognized that the company had made progress in the days since the controversy erupted.

What is the Good Good Championship?

The Good Good Championship is a new FedExCup Fall event scheduled for November 2026 in Austin, Texas. It represents Good Good’s first partnership with the PGA Tour and the first time the golf-content company has sponsored a professional golf tournament on the Tour.

The tournament is scheduled to take place at Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa, with a 120-player field and 500 FedExCup points going to the winner. The PGA Tour announced the event as part of a multi-year partnership with Good Good. The event was designed in part to connect the PGA Tour with a younger audience through one of golf’s fastest-growing digital brands.

The Tour isn’t simply dealing with a sponsor whose name appears on an advertisement. Good Good’s name is attached to an actual PGA Tour tournament.

PGA Tour’s response to controversial ad

PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp said the situation was “fluid” when asked about the upcoming Good Good Championship, while also criticizing the company’s initial response to the advertisement.

“I think initially no. I think what we saw was concerning, is clearly not aligned with PGA Tour values,” Rolapp said. “We take it very seriously. I think their initial response was disappointing. It was a bit defensive and late.”

Rolapp added that Good Good’s more recent responses had been better and that the Tour would continue to monitor the situation. For now, the Good Good Championship remains on the PGA Tour schedule. But the Tour’s public criticism has put in doubt whether or not Good Good will still be the event’s title sponsor when the tournament arrives in Austin in November.

The fallout has already reached other Good Good partnerships

The PGA Tour isn’t the only organization reconsidering its relationship with Good Good. Golf Channel postponed the premiere of Big Break x Good Good just hours before it was scheduled to air on August 25. The network said the delay would allow for production updates after a sponsor requested that its branding be removed from the series. The premiere is now scheduled for September 1.

The fallout has also reached retail. Golf Galaxy and Dick’s Sporting Goods have removed Good Good products from their online stores, according to Golf Digest. Golf Galaxy had also been listed as a presenting sponsor of Big Break x Good Good. Neither retailer has publicly explained whether the removals are temporary.

That means the PGA Tour is now dealing with a controversy that has already affected several of Good Good’s commercial relationships.

Will the Good Good Championship still happen?

As of August 27, the tournament has not been canceled. The PGA Tour’s official event announcement remains in place, and the tournament is still scheduled for Austin in November. However, Rolapp’s comments make clear that the Tour is not treating the controversy as business as usual.

When asked specifically about the Good Good Championship, Rolapp said: “It’s a bit of a fluid situation.”

There have also been reports that the PGA Tour is considering alternative sponsors for the tournament, although the Tour has not publicly announced that Good Good has been removed or that a replacement sponsor has been selected. Good Good’s position as title sponsor is now uncertain, but the partnership has officially ended.

The company has already apologized and acknowledged that the advertisement was a mistake. Callaway has taken responsibility for approving the campaign and said it is reviewing its processes, while Good Good has said it is reviewing its own creative and approval procedures. The PGA Tour has also indicated that it has been in communication with Good Good.

So, the next few weeks could determine whether the controversy remains a damaging episode for the company or becomes a much more consequential break between Good Good and some of golf’s biggest institutions. The Good Good Championship is still scheduled to be played in Austin in November. The question is whether it will still carry the Good Good name when the players tee it up.
