Crawford confirms his next fight will be the Errol Spence Jr. rematch

‘Bud’ is willing to face the likes of Canelo and Jermell Charlo, but before that, he will have to deal with ‘The Truth’ again.

Update:
‘Bud’ is willing to face the likes of Canelo and Jermell Charlo, but before that, he will share the ring with Spence Jr. again.

The No. 1 pound-for-pound boxer in the world, Terence Crawford, is already thinking about his next battle. After lots of speculations about who his next opponent would be, the Omaha native has stated that he’s already focusing on his next fight, which will be his rematch clash against Errol Spence Jr.

The undisputed welterweight champion said the fight will likely take place at 147 rather than 154, but admitted he doesn’t know when the two stars will share the ring again, as Showtime will no longer broadcast boxing fights after 2023.

It may be a good decision for Crawford if the fight takes place at 147, which would favor the smaller fighter, as Spence Jr is regarded as one of the biggest men in the division.

Taking into consideration the way Crawford dismantled The Truth in their megafight in July, where Bud got away with the win via TKO in the ninth round, facing a drained Spence Jr. would likely make him look great again against the Long Island-bred talent.

Crawford, obliged to face Spence Jr.

In a normal situation, a rematch between both men would never take place, as the first fight was one-sided in favor of Crawford.

However, in both fighter’s contracts, there was a rematch clause that obliged the two men to meet again, which was one of the main conditions to make the first fight possible.

We signed to do a rematch, and that’s what it is. I don’t have a date, but I know that’s the next fight for Terence Crawford”, he said to the media.

“It’s up in the air because Showtime has decided not to do boxing. Nothing has been noted to me that the fight would not happen. The contract says 147, and that’s where it will be right now. We can decide on 154 or 147″, Crawford stated.

“He wants to prove to the world that he can defeat me in a rematch. I take my hat off to him”, he added.

Crawford is a big favorite to defeat Spence Jr. again. If the odds are right and the two-division undisputed world champion emerges victorious, he will be free to negotiate another massive fight against Canelo Álvarez in a bigger category or take on Jermall Charlo.
